Microsoft 365 Copilot introductory training
The Microsoft 365 Copilot introductory course gives an overview of six core ways people interact with AI and use it in their work: content creation, research, ideation and strategy, data analysis, coding and automation. We go through all six use cases and show how they help you get everyday work done more efficiently. The trainer adjusts how deeply the topics are covered to the group’s experience and needs. Explanations and examples alternate with short hands-on tries and discussions. Participants can try selected tasks, but because of the limited teaching time most of the workbook exercises are left for independent practice. The six use cases are based on the core components of AI use cases described in OpenAI’s guide “Identifying and scaling AI use cases in organizations” (source).
This 3-academic-hour course does not produce a finished practical deliverable. You become more aware of what AI can do, get familiar with using it and get to experiment a little so you can start with more confidence. If you want to get a specific piece of work finished during the course, we recommend choosing the 6-academic-hour course.

- We relate the six use cases to office work.
- We explain the risk of AI making mistakes, the impact of the licence and user permissions, and the limits on how data may be used.
- The trainer shows the Work IQ option for turning the use of work data on or off.
- The participant picks one task from their own work.
- The participant adds a goal, background information, a source and the desired format of the response to the task, and directs Copilot to ask for missing information.
- The trainer distinguishes between Chat and Cowork and shows how a personal project (Projects) and a shared workspace (Workspaces) can be used.
- The participant drafts or improves a short work text in Word and checks one fact against the source document.
- The trainer shows how to create an email draft in Outlook and a meeting memo in Teams.
- We distinguish between proposals and decisions in the memo.
- The trainer shows how to search for information on the web and in accessible work files, and how to compare sources.
- The participant checks one claim in a sample answer against the original source and assesses how up to date the source is.
- The trainer shows how to have Copilot suggest solutions to a work problem and assess their weak points.
- Participants compare the options and choose one feasible next step.
- The trainer analyses a sample table in Excel, explains one formula and shows how to create a chart.
- Participants check one calculation together and assess whether the data supports the conclusion.
- The trainer builds an interactive dashboard from sample data in Copilot Pages and modifies it using plain language.
- Participants assess whether the chart is suitable and whether the figures match the source data.
- No code is written by hand.
- The trainer shows the role of plugins, reusable work instructions and scheduled Cowork tasks.
- The participant saves their best prompt and picks a recurring task whose automation they will explore further.
Personalised and immediately applicable
The greatest strength of the training was personalisation. Every lesson built on our company's real situations and processes, not textbook examples. The balance of theory and practice and the concrete tips helped us quickly adopt new working methods. The training gave us tools that can be applied immediately, not knowledge that ends up in a drawer.

Learning outcomes
What you'll be able to do:
give the AI the context it needs and prompt it to ask for the information it needs when you cannot provide it yourself;
recognise the AI features shown in the course and describe their main uses;
name the six AI use cases and relate them to your own work tasks: content creation, research, ideation and strategy, data analysis, coding and automation.

Encouraging and practical
We gained the courage to experiment and to see how to make our work easier. A start has been made and I am very grateful for it. I especially liked the practical examples. At the same time, I understand that consolidating skills and deepening knowledge requires a lot more practice.
Good to know
Before the training
Scope of the training
The course gives you the skills to start using AI in your everyday work. The programming part is limited to a simple interactive dashboard example; Copilot’s Code is not taught separately. Integrating company systems, developing production-ready applications and automating end-to-end processes require separate training or development work.
Duration and format
Three academic hours equal 135 minutes of instruction. Breaks are added on top of this time. The course can be held online or on site; on-site teaching lets the trainer guide participants’ practice more directly. The course is taught in Estonian or English.
Prerequisites
Every participant needs a computer with an internet connection. The required apps and add-ins must be set up before the course. Hands-on participation requires a Microsoft 365 work or school account permitted in the organisation and a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence that gives access to the apps used in the course. The core exercises take place in Copilot Chat and Word. To try out data analysis, Copilot must be ready to use in Excel. We check the required features with the client before the course; for the dashboard example, code preview in Copilot Pages must be enabled on the trainer’s account. For practice, we use sample data or materials agreed with the client.
