ChatGPT introductory training

The OpenAI ChatGPT introductory training gives an overview of six core ways people interact with AI and use it in their work: content creation, research, shaping ideas and strategy, data analysis, coding and automation. We go through all six use cases and show how they help make everyday work more efficient. The trainer adapts the depth of each topic to the group’s experience and needs. Explanations and examples alternate with short hands-on tries and discussions. Participants can try selected tasks, but most of the workbook exercises are left for independent practice, as training time is limited. The six use cases are based on the core components of AI use cases described in OpenAI’s guide “Identifying and scaling AI use cases in organizations” (source).

This 3-academic-hour training does not produce a finished practical result. You become more aware of what AI can do, get to know how it is used and try it out a little, so you can start with more confidence. If you want to complete a specific piece of work during the training, we recommend choosing the 6-academic-hour training.

  • Length 3 academic hours · 135 minutes of instruction
  • Format Online / On-site
  • Level Beginner
  • Group Unlimited online, up to 40 on-site
  • Audience The training suits office workers who are starting to use AI or have so far only tried it occasionally. No previous experience with AI or programming is needed. If the group consists of people in the same role, we tailor all examples to that role and its tasks. For a mixed group, we use more general examples suited to different office workers.
  • Materials Participants receive a workbook, sample files and exercise instructions. Most of the workbook exercises are left for independent practice after the training. The workbook allows more in-depth practice in comparing ideas, data analysis and building your own dashboard, as well as trying out scheduling a recurring task. Independent work after the training is not included in the stated course volume.

    • We relate the six use cases to office work.
    • We explain the risk of AI mistakes and the limits on using data, and distinguish between work and personal accounts.
    • Each participant picks one task from their own work.
    • Each participant adds a goal, background information and the desired format of the answer to the task.
    • The trainer shows the difference between custom instructions, Memory and Projects, and how to use a regular chat and Work.
    • Each participant uses ChatGPT to draft an email or a short work text and makes one substantive revision.
    • The trainer shows how to dictate your thoughts by voice and how to use an image as input for a task.
    • We distinguish between web search and deep research (Deep Research).
    • Each participant asks a search question and checks one claim in the answer against the original source.
    • The trainer demonstrates how to launch deep research.
    • The trainer shows how to have ChatGPT suggest solutions to a work problem and assess their weak points.
    • Participants compare the options and choose one feasible next step.
    • The trainer analyses a sample table, explains one formula and formulates a conclusion.
    • Participants check one calculation together and assess whether the data supports the conclusion.
    • The trainer uses Sites to build an interactive dashboard from sample data and changes it in plain language.
    • Participants assess whether the chart is suitable and whether the figures match the source data.
    • No code is written by hand.
    • The trainer shows the role of a reusable work instruction (Skill), a plugin and a scheduled task.
    • Each participant saves their best instruction and picks a recurring activity whose automation they want to explore further.

Learning outcomes

What you'll be able to do:

  1. give the AI the context it needs and prompt it to ask for the information it needs when you cannot provide it yourself;

  2. recognise the AI features shown in the training and describe their main uses;

  3. name the six AI use cases and relate them to your own work tasks: content creation, research, ideas and strategy, data analysis, coding and automation.

Good to know

Before the training

Scope of the training

The training gives you the skills to start using AI in your everyday work. The coding part is limited to a simple interactive dashboard example; Codex is not taught separately. Integrating company systems, developing production-ready applications and automating end-to-end processes require separate training or development work.

Duration and format

Three academic hours are 135 minutes of instruction. Breaks are added to this time. The training can be held online or on site; on-site training lets the trainer guide participants’ practice more directly. The training is held in Estonian or English.

Prerequisites

Each participant needs a computer with an internet connection. The required apps and add-ins must be set up before the training. Hands-on participation requires a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise account approved by the organisation, with the features needed for the training enabled. The main exercises take place in ChatGPT. To try out data analysis, OpenAI’s official ChatGPT for Excel add-in must be installed and ready to use in Excel. For practice, we use sample data or materials agreed with the client.
