ChatGPT practical introductory training
The OpenAI ChatGPT practical introductory training gives an overview of six core ways people interact with AI and use it in their work: content creation, research, shaping ideas and strategy, data analysis, coding and automation. We go through all six use cases and solve related work tasks under the trainer’s guidance. The trainer adapts the depth of each topic to the group’s experience and needs. Explanations and examples alternate with guided exercises and discussions. Participants check the results and improve their instructions based on the feedback they receive. The six use cases are based on the core components of AI use cases described in OpenAI’s guide “Identifying and scaling AI use cases in organizations” (source).
In this 6-academic-hour training, you complete a project set up for your work, a revised work text, an analysis of a sample table and a simple interactive dashboard. You use ChatGPT to research a chosen topic in depth and check the key claims of the information found against the original sources. You draw up an action plan for solving one work problem. To automate a recurring activity, you write down the input information needed, the desired result and the steps that require human review.

- We relate the six use cases to office work.
- We explain the risk of AI mistakes and the limits on using data, and distinguish between work and personal accounts.
- Each participant picks one task from their own work and assesses what information may be used to complete it.
- Each participant creates a project and adds the task’s goal, background information, a sample file and the desired format of the answer.
- We practise steering ChatGPT to ask clarifying questions when necessary input information is missing.
- We distinguish between account custom instructions, Memory and project context, and between using a regular chat and Work.
- We find the files saved in Library.
- Each participant writes a text suited to their work and improves its content, tone or structure.
- We try dictating our thoughts by voice and using an image as input for a task.
- The trainer also shows how to create and edit images.
- We distinguish between web search and deep research (Deep Research).
- Each participant formulates a research question, compares web sources and launches deep research.
- While the longer research runs, we continue with other exercises and later check its key claims against the original sources.
- Participants have ChatGPT suggest solutions to a work problem and point out their weak points.
- We compare the options against chosen criteria and draw up an action plan for a feasible solution.
- Each participant analyses a sample table with ChatGPT for Excel, asks a question about the data and creates or explains a formula.
- We check one calculation and assess whether the data supports the conclusion drawn from it.
- Each participant uses Sites to build a simple interactive dashboard from sample data, with key metrics, a chart and a filter.
- We change the dashboard in plain language and check that the figures match the source data.
- No code is written by hand; the dashboard uses data from the file provided.
- The trainer shows the role of a reusable work instruction (Skill), a plugin and a scheduled task.
- Each participant saves their best instruction and describes, for one recurring activity, when it runs, its input information, its result and the steps that require human review.
- The result is a brief for the automation; the technical setup of the workflow is left for further practice.
Personalised and immediately applicable
The greatest strength of the training was personalisation. Every lesson built on our company's real situations and processes, not textbook examples. The balance of theory and practice and the concrete tips helped us quickly adopt new working methods. The training gave us tools that can be applied immediately, not knowledge that ends up in a drawer.

Learning outcomes
What you'll be able to do:
use ChatGPT to write a text suited to your work, give it the background information it needs and have it ask clarifying questions about missing information;
use ChatGPT to research a chosen topic in depth and check the key claims of the information found against the original sources;
compare solutions suggested by ChatGPT against chosen criteria and draw up an action plan;
use ChatGPT to analyse a sample table and check the calculation a conclusion is based on;
build a simple interactive dashboard from sample data and change it in plain language;
describe how a recurring work task could be automated and identify the steps that require human review.

Encouraging and practical
We gained the courage to experiment and to see how to make our work easier. A start has been made and I am very grateful for it. I especially liked the practical examples. At the same time, I understand that consolidating skills and deepening knowledge requires a lot more practice.
Good to know
Before the training
Scope of the training
The training gives you the skills to start using AI in your everyday work. We practise coding through a simple interactive dashboard example; Codex is not taught separately. Integrating company systems, developing production-ready applications and automating end-to-end processes require separate training or development work.
Duration and format
Six academic hours are 270 minutes of instruction. Breaks are added to this time. The training can be held online or on site; on-site training lets the trainer guide participants’ practice more directly. The training is held in Estonian or English.
Prerequisites
Each participant needs a computer with an internet connection. The required apps and add-ins must be set up before the training. Hands-on participation requires a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise account approved by the organisation, with the features needed for the training enabled, including Work and Sites. The main exercises take place in ChatGPT. To practise data analysis, OpenAI’s official ChatGPT for Excel add-in must be installed and ready to use in Excel. For practice, we use sample data or materials agreed with the client.
