Building your own AI assistant in Claude

In this hands-on workshop, you build an AI assistant in Claude set up for one of your work tasks. You start by describing your work tasks and, with the help of the AI and the trainer, choose one of them. You create a Project for it, add project instructions and the materials it needs, and write reusable work instructions (Skills). We set up the connections and techniques needed as we work through the task. For example, the assistant could put together a morning work overview from agreed sources, or draft an email based on a document.

By the end of the training, you will have a Claude project set up for one work task, project instructions, the data connections it needs and at least one reusable work instruction. The assistant has worked through the agreed example of the task and is ready to be used with new input. If the task needs to be done every day, you set up a daily scheduled task for it in Cowork. If there is no daily need, you run the solution yourself from then on.

  • Length 6 academic hours · 270 minutes of instruction
  • Format Online / On-site
  • Level Beginner
  • Group Unlimited online, up to 40 on-site
  • Audience The training suits office workers who want to hand one of their work tasks over to AI and build a reusable solution for it. No previous experience with building agents or programming is needed. If the group consists of people in the same job role, we tailor the examples to that role and its tasks. In a mixed group, each participant works on their own task.
  • Materials Participants receive a workbook, sample work instructions and a checklist for testing the solution. The main work is done under the trainer’s guidance. After the training, you can extend the solution with new examples and work instructions and check the results of its first uses. Independent work after the training is not included in the stated course volume.

    • Participants describe their main work tasks to the AI and answer clarifying questions.
    • We compare how often each task recurs, how available the information it needs is and how verifiable the result is.
    • We choose one clearly defined task whose solution can be finished within the day.
    • We describe what information the work starts from, what steps need to be taken and what the result must look like.
    • We add an example of a good result and define when the AI must ask for more information or for human approval.
    • We choose the files and services the task needs and use approved data connections (Connectors) to access them.
    • We check whether Claude finds the right material and what actions the connection allows.
    • We distinguish between reading material and changing it.
    • We create a Project for the chosen work task and add the materials it needs.
    • In the project instructions, we write the goal of the task, the requirements for the result and the limits of what it may do.
    • We define when the assistant must ask for more information or for human approval.
    • We have Claude carry out the task from start to finish based on the project instructions and materials.
    • Along the way, the trainer shows the techniques needed, such as searching for information, reading files or formatting the result.
    • We refine the instructions where the result needs improvement.
    • We turn the way of working that works into one or more work instructions (Skills).
    • Project instructions set the goal and limits of the work; a reusable work instruction describes the steps of a specific activity.
    • We add the work instruction to Claude and test using it in the project’s next task.
    • We test the solution with a new example and in a situation where some information is missing.
    • We check whether the result meets the agreed requirements and whether the AI stays within the limits of its task.
    • We improve the instructions and try again.
    • The trainer shows how to create, change and pause a scheduled task in Cowork.
    • If the chosen task needs to be done every day, participants add the necessary instructions, materials and connections to the scheduled task and test how it works.
    • We check separately that the scheduled task receives the background information it needs.
    • If there is no daily need, participants do not schedule their task.
    • We write down how to run the solution and how to check its first results.

Learning outcomes

What you'll be able to do:

  1. describe your work tasks to the AI and choose one for which an AI assistant can be built;

  2. use approved data connections to give the AI assistant access to the materials it needs for the work;

  3. create a Claude project and set out the task, the requirements for the result and the limits of what it may do in the project instructions;

  4. create a reusable work instruction (Skill) and use it when carrying out the project’s work task;

  5. test the AI assistant with a new example and with missing information, and improve the instructions based on the result;

  6. assess whether daily scheduling is needed and describe how to set up, change and pause a scheduled task.

Good to know

Before the training

Scope of the training

The workshop produces one AI assistant in a Claude project that carries out a single, clearly defined work task. We use existing connections and set up the project and work instructions in plain language. Programming new integrations, using Claude Code and automating work processes that span several departments require separate training or development work.

Duration and format

Before each stage of the work, the trainer demonstrates the technique needed. Participants apply it straight away to their own task and receive feedback. Over the day, we develop the same solution further step by step.

Six academic hours equal 270 minutes of instruction. Breaks are added on top of this time. The training can be held online or on site; on-site training lets the trainer guide participants’ practice more directly. The training is held in Estonian or English.

Prerequisites

Each participant needs a computer with an internet connection and a Claude Team or Enterprise account approved by their organisation. The account must have Projects, project instructions, Cowork, creating your own Skills and scheduled tasks enabled. We prepare the necessary data connections and user permissions with the client before the training. Participants bring a list of their main work tasks and sample material suited to their work. We use data approved by the organisation or sample data.
